In July 2015, some Hill's Prescription Diets are improving with taste upgrades so your pet will enjoy them even more. Also, all prescription diets are getting shiney new packaging with clearer labelling. We are recommending a transition period for the foods with taste upgrades . The upgrades only apply to the DRY food (kibble). A transition period means mixing the old formula with the new for several days to assist the transition for your pet. Some pets on prescription diets have taste preferences or health issues where a slow transition improves food tolerance. We don't expect any issues…

We got this email from a friend yesterday. Our response is below...... From: Chris Sent: Tuesday, 13 January 2015 8:15 a.m. To: [email protected] Subject: cat advice Hi David My friend has just inherited a 5 year old cat from across town. The cat has been in the house only 24 hours. It looks a little freaked out and miserable. Not himself. How long would you propose keeping the cat inside to lower the risk of him trying to scarper across town from the new house back ‘home’ to his old house? Thanks Chris To: Chris Subject: RE: cat advice Hi Chris Thanks for your question - it's a good one…

Did you know that around 70% of cats and dogs aged 3 and over have some sort of dental disease? We do, and we work hard to educate our clients about dental care. This month NZ Vet Association published results of a nationwide survey of veterinarians about the current level of dental care that is being offered to cats and dogs. It found: Only 53% of vets routinely perform nerve blocks prior to removing teeth Only 16% of vets regularly take x-rays of cats and dogs teeth Only 24% of vets would monitor a tooth that was broken, exposing the pulp canal and causing pain. 76% are unaware that there…
We have a number of clients who live in apartments, live on 'high traffic' roads or whose cats are constantly getting into fights. Some of these clients have made the decision to always keep their cat indoors. Obviously cats naturally roam and hunt and do cat-type things outside, but indoor cats cope just fine if you can make some allowances for their lifestyle. There is even some suggestion that the average indoor cat outlives his free-roaming cousins by a couple of years. If you want to keep your cat inside consider the following: Exercise & Entertainment Cats who don't wander and hunt…
Hibernation season is upon us! As the temperature outside is dropping, all we can think about is getting cosy with our favourite winter blanket, a nice cup of tea and staying as close to the heater as possible. With the shorter days, the last thing we want to do when getting home after a long day is going back outside into the cold weather. This is a common condition called Winter Blues, and it can develop in our furry family members as well. So, how can we keep our pets safe and happy during this time? The power of a wheat bag On the colder winter days, if you find yourself putting on your…
During Autumn and Winter we start noticing mobility issues, particularly in senior cats and dogs. Below are two stories of pets with degenerative joint disease, and how their owners are helping them live happier, more active lives. On the left is Matilda. She has been getting pentosan injections for over a year, which have helped with her mobility. As she continued visiting us regularly through the year, we noticed that her arthritis was getting worse and she started having pain relief medication, which made her a lot more comfortable. Over the summer, she has started going to hydrotherapy.…
